How to Measure for a Custom Mattress · Comfort Camping Co.
Buying a custom mattress starts with one thing — accurate measurements. Get them right and everything else is straightforward. Get them wrong and you are waiting another three weeks for a recut. Here is how to do it properly.
Step 1. Measure length at the longest point
Head to foot along the sleeping surface. If the space tapers or has an angled end, measure the longest dimension. Note the width at both ends if it changes.
Step 2. Measure width at widest and narrowest
Most sleeping spaces in caravans and vans are not perfectly parallel. Measure both ends. Note where wheel arches, storage lids, or cabinetry cuts into the sleeping area — these are the spots that trip people up.
Step 3. Note all cutouts and features
Wheel arches — measure from the inner side wall to where the arch starts, the width of the arch, and the height above your bed platform. Rounded corners — note which corners and whether you want a soft or tight radius. Splits — note where the mattress needs to divide if a hatch or storage lid needs to open underneath.
Step 4. Take photos
A top-down photo of your bed platform tells us more than most written descriptions. A close-up of each wheel arch. A photo of any unusual corners or angles. Send them through after we reply to your quote and we will confirm every dimension before cutting.
The most important thing
Nothing is cut until you have seen and approved the final spec. We would rather ask one extra question than cut something wrong. Send us your best numbers and we will take it from there.
